About the book

Soft Tether explores the metaphor of the "net" as the invisible yet meaningful connections that shape my life, focusing on my relationship with my mother, Joanne, who passed away in 2019. Soft Tether reveals the gentle yet unbreakable connection that holds me and, at times, restrains me. Being both a visual and narrative representation of how she continues to guide me, show up in my life, and connect me to the world around me. Through photography, illustration, and written reflections, it weaves together the locations, memories, and conversations that embody her presence, forming a formless yet embodied portrait of her. The “net” becomes a way to visualise how she still exists in the spaces I navigate and the moments I experience, offering a subtle network of influences.
